“I Want A House(我要上車)” is an interactive 2D game. It is about Hong Kong social issues, housing problem.
In recent year, Hong Kong suffers high property prices, unaffordable rents and soaring commodity costs. There is news said that fourteen years to buy a flat - even you would stop eating and live on the streets. It is so crazy! Many Hong Kong youngsters, especially post-80s and post-90s generation has difficulty in purchasing their first flat.
My friends and I are disappointed about that. We feel hopeless to purchase a flat no matter how we hard work to earn money. Even though we have enough money to buy, we may only be able to buy a very small flat. I think it is a sorrow of Hong Kong youngsters and Hong Kong. That makes me think of what is the meaning of our life. Is it only a house? I would like the public has the same feeling of Hong Kong youngster about how they are difficult to purchase a flat. And the most important thing is to have introspection in what you have sought for through my final year project – an interactive 2D game.
The game is about a character needs to save the specific money in different level to buy a car, flat and get married. I designed the game which is not easy pass and cannot win after level 1 no matter how the player plays again and again. It reflects the fact of Hong Kong youngsters. They are very hard to save money for purchasing a flat. We can feel hopeless and sorrow of Hong Kong youngsters through this game.
But there is a hidden end of the game. If the player chooses other optional (happiness) rather than save money, it will enter into the hidden ending. Let the player think about what is the meaning of our life.
I hope everyone enjoyed and have inspired in my final year project!
